I have lived in the Metro-East for 11 years now.

In what Metro-East city do you live?

I live in Swansea.

What brought you here?

A career move brought me here. I came here to work at Memorial Hospital. I previously worked in Hickory, North Carolina.

What do you love most about the Metro-East?

It’s got to be the people. There’s such a strong sense of community. The people are so committed to one another, the community and improving the environment we all live in.

What advice would you give someone moving to the area?

I strongly recommend that wherever someone goes, he or she should get to know the area. We are accessible to so many things and we have great housing value.

What are your favorite attractions in the Metro-East?

The Metro-East has so much to offer. Eckert’s is one of my favorite family attractions.

What do you think are the Metro-East’s best assets?

If you choose to live in the Metro-East, you are choosing to live in a place where you have ease of access to everything you could need. You don’t have to move again.

What do you like to do for fun in the Metro-East?

The Metro-East has great bike trails – both Belleville and Madison County Transit – but most of my time is spent spoiling my grandchildren at some of our favorite local spots.

What is one thing you would like people to know about the Metro-East?
That we are highly educated and thriving in the Metro-East.
Please list charities to which you lend your time.
I serve on the boards of McKendree University, Leadership Council of southwestern Illinois, Lewis and Clark Council of the Boy Scouts of America and Rebirth East St. Louis.
Why do you think it’s important for people to volunteer and what drives you to volunteer?
We improve our community when we work with and for others to make our community stronger and a better place to live. It is a calling to help others using the gifts or talents each of us have.
Have you made any special friends or memories in your volunteer work?
I have made so many friends through my volunteer activities. I am sure I have learned more from other volunteers than can be listed here. These types of activities are a source of inspiration for me and others who give of their time.
