How long have you lived in the Metro-East?

I was born and raised in Belleville.

In what Metro-East city do you live?

I live in Swansea.

What do you love most about the Metro-East?

I like the diversity of everything that there is to do here and how we are so close to the country and the City at the same time. I appreciate the hometown feel of the people who live here and how they are so hard working and genuine.

What advice would you give someone moving to the area?

To seek out and experience all of the treasures we have in the area and to avoid parochialism. There are wonderful things in all of the communities in this area so I would encourage them to get out and explore.

What are your favorite attractions in the Metro-East?

Pere Marquette State Park and Fort Kaskaskia State Historic Site are two of my favorite places.

What do you think are the Metro-East’s best assets?

It's definitely the people. I like the work ethic and the genuine nature of people here and I think it’s one of our greatest assets. People here are always willing to volunteer and overall participation in the community is wonderful.

What do you like to do for fun in the Metro-East?

I really just like to spend time with family and friends in a community I love.

What is one thing you would like people to know about living in the Metro-East?
I think the one thing that people don’t realize is how affordable the housing is in this area and that there is quite a diverse stock of home options.

Why do you think it’s important for people to volunteer and what drives you to volunteer?
I believe the more you give the more you receive. I also believe that I have been very fortunate, and that giving of my time, talent and treasure is a way to give back.
Have you made any special friends or memories in your volunteer work?
Yes. Colleagues who you go through the chairs with, or have worked side by side with have become lifelong friends.
